London, United Kingdom
Tucked within a diverse mews in Maida Vale, this home has been reimagined as a layered and light-filled residence, shaped by a careful attention to material, movement, and the shifting qualities of daylight.
The design strategy centres on unlocking the spatial constraints of the original building. A new half-basement introduces a multipurpose level anchored by natural light and soft materials, creating a calm, adaptable space for everyday use. On the ground floor, a reconfigured layout opens the living, kitchen and dining areas into one continuous sequence, improving legibility and movement through the home.
Key interventions include a sculptural perforated metal stair, carefully detailed joinery, and a warm, neutral palette of natural finishes. Daylight is drawn deep into the plan via glazed openings and courtyards, ensuring a strong connection between all levels.
